Have you heard of the man flu or the man cold? You may think it’s a myth but I have to say that I think it is anything but a myth.
You may have known that last week my whole family was sick. It wasn’t anything major, just a head cold. You know, stuffy runny nose, headache, and just all around miserable feeling. My husband started with it and I knew it was just a matter of time before it spread throughout the family.
My husband milked the sickness. He wanted to call off work 2 days but decided not to. Both days he came home and all we had for supper was chicken noodle soup and he got a shower and went to bed. I thought, if I ended up with what he had I would be in trouble because someone still has to take care of the child!
Just 2 days after my husband started getting sick, sure enough my daughter started with it. One morning she woke up and her nose was like a faucet and her eyes were continuously watering. She even had a fever. For the most part though she acted like herself. She was a little more cuddly at times, but really she was a trooper and still played and ran around like a 2 year old. I was amazed, and I am convinced that it is just in a woman’s nature to not take a cold lying down!
The day after my daughter started with the cold I started with it. It was annoying, I was tired, and had a headache, but I managed to make it through. As a stay at home mom I can’t call off work. Luckily because I work from home I can make my own hours so I was able to work a few less hours when I wasn’t feeling well, but I still managed to take care of my daughter and keep everyone fed and clothed.
Had that been my husband, he wouldn’t have been able to do that. Every time we all get sick I am more and more convinced that either the man flu really does exist or that women are just naturally unable to take a cold laying down. Maybe it’s a combination of the two.
What do you think? Do you think the man flu exists?
