We all have that one holiday that we look forward to every year. For me I like just about any holiday, so narrowing it down to just one that is my favorite is hard, but after thinking about all the different holidays, I decided on one.
My favorite holiday is Christmas.
For most kids they love Christmas because of the presents, and even for adults, they love watching their children open the gifts, but for me that is not the case.
Don’t get me wrong, I love watching my daughter open presents, especially now because she is so into it now, but that is not why Christmas is my favorite holiday.
There are many reasons why Christmas is my favorite holiday.
First and foremost, I love the fact that we get to celebrate the birth of Jesus. The whole reason for Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our lord and savior and I am so thankful that I live in a country that I can follow my own religion.
The second reason that Christmas is my favorite holiday is the time I get to spend with my family. To me family is very important. I love spending time with my family and holidays are perfect for that. Not only do we get to celebrate the birth of Jesus, we get to celebrate it with family. I enjoy spending time with family and while it is stressful to go to 5 or more houses and gatherings, I wouldn’t change it for anything. I enjoy it so much that I look forward to the day when I can have Christmas and other holidays at my house!
Who doesn’t love food? Another reason I love Christmas, along with other holidays, is the food. Obviously I love food because I have a weight issue, but I can’t help it. Something that seems to be synonymous with holidays is food in my family, and I am sure in most other families as well. Not only is it just that day though, I love all the leftovers! For some reason there are things that are just better the second time around.
I am going to sound like an old granny here (no offence), but I love to play canasta. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is a card game. Every holiday after we all eat and clean up (maybe nap?), my grandpa, my uncle, my uncle’s girlfriend, and I all play. It is a blast! Sometimes my grandma will sub in for someone and we take turns.
Since it’s Christmas I have to add the gifts in here. It’s not all about the gifts, but they are nice and I love watching my daughter open her gifts now.
While I chose Christmas as my favorite holiday, it is a close call. I love Easter because we get to celebrate the resurrection along with all these other reasons as well. I enjoy Thanksgiving, even though it is not a religious holiday.
What is your favorite holiday and why? Do you celebrate any other holidays instead of Christmas and Easter that you enjoy?
