I tend to think of myself as a relatively crafty person, so when I had a guest post about a DIY kids bookshelf, I was so excited to try it. For my baby shower I asked people to bring books instead of cards, and we had a great turnout! Up until just recently, I had stored all the books on the bottom shelf of my daughters changing table, but as she has gotten older I felt we could get rid of it, but I needed a place to put all the books. In comes the DIY kids bookshelf!
It really wasn’t that hard to make. I started by buying all the supplies that I needed: 4 crates, the paint (I used the brown that we used for my daughters room to match, and a pink and purple), paintbrushes, the glue, and I wanted to add “ABCD” to the side.
I started by painting all the crates. I used 2 coats to make sure it was completely covered.
Then I set them up to see what order I liked best.
This way I knew what crates to put what letters on. I did letters on both sides.
After the letters dried, I glued the crates together. You need to clamp them together, but I just used books (I have a TON of nursing books, and those babies are heavy).
Lastly, to put all her books on it and it’s finished.
All in all, it took maybe a total of about 5 hours to do. Painting the crates took the longest at about an hour each. I am really pleased with how it turned out!
In the original post, it was mentioned to clear coat it first, but I left that step out because I like the look.
Do you think you will try this out? Have you tried making this before? If so feel free to share your photos!
