If you know much about this blog, you know that I strive to share great medical advice and I have recently decided to share my journey with weight loss. You may think these two things are completely unrelated, but you are completely wrong.
Water is very important in many aspects of your life, and many of those aspects also affect other areas of your life. There are many benefits of drinking water.
Duh, if you don’t drink enough water it leads to dehydration. Here’s the thing though, many people think if they are drinking fluids that they are hydrated. The fact is that things like pop and juice don’t hydrate you as well as water. Even mild dehydration can affect your performance at work, causing decreased alertness, concentration, fuzzy memory, and even trouble focusing. Dehydration can also cause you to be tired, dizzy, lightheaded, and can cause you to retain water once you start drinking it again.
Weight Gain and Water Retention
If you are not drinking enough water, your body will retain water when it can to make up for the lack of water. This can actually make your weight increase. It sounds crazy, but if you drink extra water your body will actually get rid of the retained water, helping you lose weight.
While we are on the subject of weight loss, drinking more water can help you lose weight. First, if you drink water in place of the sugary drinks you will be cutting out calories, therefore making it easier for you to lose weight because water has no calories. Drinking water before meals can help you decrease the amount of food you are eating and drinking water between meals can keep you full so you don’t snack.
Aids in Digestion
Drinking plenty of water helps to make sure that things move smoothly through your bowels. Without enough water your bowels have trouble pushing the solid waste through and can lead to constipation.
Helps Clear Your Skin
If you are like me your face is covered with pimples, especially during “that time of the month”. Drinking more water can help clear your complexion by helping to flush toxins out of your body.
These are just a few benefits of drinking water and there are many more. I assure you that if you start drinking more water you will start feeling better and having more energy. I know I have noticed a huge difference in my energy levels and how I feel since I have been drinking more water every day.
